I'm now in Norway, hiking in the mountains. It's been pretty nice so far, but I have a few things to say about it. The first thing has nothing to do with the country whatsoever, but about Herman Melville's classic book, Moby Dick. One of my favorite books ever, I was in the middle of re-reading it on the plane and I came to a fantastic revelation: Moby Dick is perhaps the most homoerotic epic ever written. Though I did not realize it at first when I read it in middle school (cut me some slack; I thought I was diseased with some kind of cancer after I saw the results of my first wet dream, and I though condoms were something you put on a sandwich.), I figured out that the first two-hundred vaguely detailed pages of that book are dedicated to Ishmael's love affair with the "savage", a.k.a. black (it's 1830, ladies and gents), Queequeg. And here's the kicker: it's actually hot in its vagueness. Ishmael recounts paragraphs of the two sharing a bed with each other, "rolling around," and "feeling" each other. Suddenly went from Nantucket to San Francisco, and frankly, I was impressed. I guess that's what Time Out! New York meant when they wrote in a chart: GAY: Gore Vidal, GAYER: Herman Melville.
Anyway, on to Norway. I love this country, despite the fact that I hold a bit of resentment towards their children, because this little one was screaming throughout the entire seven-hour plane ride. I don't know, but something about screaming children I hate even more when they speak in a foreign language. I guess it's because it sounds like total gibberish, and in my gibberish scale, Norwegien takes a solid eight, right behind Mandarin. A small side note: I swear to God, I've been watching that Nickelodeon show, "Ni-Hao! Kai-Lan," and I haven't learned a thing. They go through half an hour of singing, exclusively using one Chinese word, and I can never get the pronunciation right. Chinese is officially overrated. But yeah, Norway's nice.
That's all I have to say. I hope to keep updating my art soon.
